Location
This is the geysir in Iceland. It does this about every 10-minutes or so.Time
This photograph was taken in the early afternoon, around 2:40pm.Lighting
The sun in Iceland is always a lot lower in the sky than locations further south in the world. Here I tried to get a 'back-lit' effect to show-off the plume of the geysir. The blue sky helps in this shot, but get a lot of cloud and the geysir gets a bit lost. I was lucky with the tourists on this occasion. Many times there are hundreds of people crowding around the geysir waiting for it, and it's sometimes difficult to exclude them.Equipment
On this occasion I used a Nikon D7000 with a 12-24mm lens at 18mm, 500-sec handheld.Inspiration
This geysir is one of the most visited tourist hot-spots in Iceland, and the geysir is unique. On a brilliant sunny day who could resist taking a photograph of it?Editing
This photograph is pretty much as it came out of the camera, with a bit of tweaking, in Photoshop, to the shadow area to bring-out the detail and to stop the highlights burning-out.In my camera bag
Nikon d7100; 12-24mm f4; 35mm f1.8; 18-200mm VR f3.5; 70-300mm VR f4.5; 10-stop neutral density filter; remote release; Manfrotto tripod.Feedback
Be patient, wait for the light or even come back on another day, look for an unusual viewpoint, get up early to beat the crowds!
