Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my front yard in sunny North Florida. My passion is a cross between Nature and Macro Photography. I'm mostly self taught and I just finished a online course from The New York Institute Of Photography.

Time

This was taken on March 18th 2015 at 10:46 am. I remember walking to the front door and seeing this little beauty flying around our Easter lilies. I grabbed my Camera and ran out to the lilies and sat down in the center, focused one lily and waited for him to fly in then just held down the shutter till he flew off again.

Lighting

After months of cold winter weather followed by a week of rain. It was nice to see the spring sunshine shining down and warming every thing up. I think I wanted to capture that the most. I wanted this photo to have a feeling of warmth and brightness.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon T2i with a 28-80mm 3.5-5.6 zoom lens, zoomed in to 80mm Handheld.

Inspiration

I think what inspires me most about capturing such images is the thrill of the chase and the beauty and wonder such small creatures hold. For this image I wanted to capture the feeling of being a child again. The innocents the happiness the brightness of the day that butterflies always seem to bring with them.

Editing

No. I try to do all my adjustments in-camera before shooting.

In my camera bag

My main go to is my Canon T2i with a Canon EF 28-80mm zoom lens. Then I have my Canon EF 75-300 zoom lens I used for shooting animals that aren't easier or safe to get close to. Then I have my Canon 10D with a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens for the rare portrait. I also have a Canon Powershot SX500 IS for the quick snapshot here and there.

Feedback

Always have the camera at the ready. You never know what you might come across or when.
