Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken on a hot summers night at Basildon Golf Course, in Essex, at the top of the entrance way before hitting the greens.

Time

This is without doubt my favourite photographic memory, visiting the local golf course with the brother and his girlfriend, their children, enjoying a nice summers night taking random photos of the family. As it got dark i remembered the kit i had brought with me extra in my bag after reading on the internet about light trail photography and the fun started!

Lighting

I had used my bulb setting on my camera for a long exposure, and hadnt brought any extra lighting with me... The only lighting i had was the moon and... FIRE! Yes fire! Thats the light you can see in the photo, well sparks of it anyway!

Equipment

I took with me that night my trusty Nikon D3200, A bog standard wide angle kit lens, a whisk, lighter, a dog lead, umbrella, and some really fine wire wool. Once the whisk was hooked onto the dog lead it became swingable and was filled with the wire wool. this was then lit, and slowly swung in big circles... once we realised it was safe i asked my brothers girlfriend to take the wet umbrella and stand in the trajectory of the sparks. The long exposure bought out some beautiful trails

Inspiration

I had seen various things on the internet about wire wool and wanted to try something new, to see if i could do something to maybe come close to some of the beautiful results i had seen! i think i nailed it

Editing

When creating this image the only post processing was changing the RAW file in lightroom to B+W and adding a hue, which i later removed as i felt the whites, blacks and greys were a good enough image and any color really took away from the final product6

In my camera bag

my bag consists of a d3200 nikon, a standard kit lens and a 720mm lens. Along with a few speed lights and colour flash guards, They're never used but they are in there... A sturdy tripod with a spirit level attached. Extra batteries, 10 sd cards and a few bischoff :)

Feedback

literally just go with your imagination, let your gut be your guide, photograph everything and anything that you see and appreciate
