This image was taken near Mt Cook NZ at an outdoor wedding. We were not allowed to take pictures of the ceremony, and as a photographer it was hard to concentrate with this going on around us!Time
I took a this in Dec 2014 at 2pm now and is still in my memory as the best weather event I have seen. In NZ tornados and the like are very rare so this was a cracker, though I’m told , not unusual around our mountains.Lighting
I wanted not only the cloud formation to stand out but also the clouds whipping off Mt Cook in the background so I took quite a few shots so my basis were covered, from memory the light was changing rapidly and I had no idea how long the clouds would lastEquipment
I was using. Canon 5d MK 3 with a 24-70 lensInspiration
You don’t need much inspiration here as the scenery is absolutely stunning and varies enormously with each weather condition and season. To come here without a camera would be unforgivable!Editing
This was a very moody day so suited monochrome with some dodging and burningIn my camera bag
The Canon has been passed on and I now have a Sony A7R 111 with a Sony 24-105. I also use, with a sigma adaptor, the Sigma 150-600 and an Irix 15mm manual which I absolutely love. With this adaptor I can also use my Canon 50mm 1.8 And 70-200 mk2. In my kit is also the Sigma 105mm Macro lensFeedback
If you ever go to a wedding where photography the ceremony is banned take your camera anyway, you never know what might happen!
