I really like the juxtaposition of the water in two different states - frozen and in motion, in the same place at the same time. And then for you to be able to capture both the blur of the moving water and the detail of the frozen water and the rocks and plants in the background indicates talent. Keep it up!

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while out for a hike at Hilton falls conservation area located in Milton Ontario Canada.

Time

It was taken at 4:42pm on March 27 2015

Lighting

I planned the hike to the falls on an overcast day because that is the best kind of light for shooting waterfalls.

Equipment

I shot this with my Nikon D7000 with an AF-Nikkor 18-105 mm lens.

Inspiration

I am a self taught photographer a lot of people gave me a hard time for wanting to be a photographer and said that I didn't even know how to use my camera. So I created a difficult capture of a waterfall with out a tripod to prove that in fact know how to use my camera. I went off path and hiked down an icy slope and walked out onto the still frozen yet melting rivers edge with no tripod, and shot away with steady hands.

Editing

Nature gave me a beautiful gift that day this picture was so beautiful naturally that I didn't really need to do anything other then enhance the colours and sharpen the image a little bit.

In my camera bag

I am just starting out as a photographer so I only have my Nikon D700 with the AF-Nikkor 18-105 mm lens. My next addition will be a macro lens.

Feedback

Try to shoot waterfalls close to home so that when the weather cooperates you can get out there right away during optimal lighting.
