Cross made from huge construction forged iron nails. The cross rests in St.Paul's Chapel & Trinity Church in Lower Manhattan, NYC, the closet church in proximity to the WTC - at time of destruction. Miraculously, the church was unscathed from the nearby devastation, except for layers of ash. It is the oldest standing church in NYC, built 1774. Deemed a miracle due to it's proximity to the WTC and not even a window damaged, it became a haven to first responders and heroes of "ground zero" for 8 months of clean up. Fireman, rescuers, heroes of all kinds found respite, a meal, a prayer, rest, at this church for many many months following 9-11 during their tireless 12 hour shifts. The nail cross was made and donated in honor of the fallen, the heroes, and became a symbol of peace to all those seeking a place to find refuge on their breaks from the burden of their endless heroic efforts. I took this picture on a visit to NYC and ground zero in 2007. The church is a beautiful architectural U.S. Historic Landmark, hauntingly magnificent and still a place of worship for many. Peace.
