Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my parent garage.

Time

I am not 100% but it was around 2:00pm the light just caught my eye as the door opened.

Lighting

Normally I don't like taking pictures with such direct/harsh light but the shadow's added a little extra something that I liked.

Equipment

T3i with a 18mm to 55mm lens that's all.

Inspiration

I was on vacation and as usual I brought my camera gear. I really wanted to shoot some long exposures of Bidwell Creek in Chico, ca. but time didn't allow. I have always been a car guy and this car is in my opinion the quintessential hot rod. I really wanted to capture it in a was I have never seen done before. I was eyeballing this car all weekend long and finally it caught my eye. Something about the way the light was shining off the chrome and the way the shadow's really brought out the lines of the car interested me. For me the rear end of the car is how I can tell the different years and everyone will recognize the Super Sport "SS" that why I picked this. I took about 1 million photo's all around the car but this was the one.

Editing

I just adjusted my level's and some of the contrast. I only have iPhoto.

In my camera bag

T3i body, 18mm-55mm lens, 55mm to 250mm, tri-pod, with a couple ND filters and polarizing filters, remote shutter release, macro/fisheye lens.

Feedback

The best advice I can give coming from an amateur is to have a clear direction of what you want to shoot but to keep your eyes open. You never know when inspiration will arise. I also shot this while the car was parked in the garage so I had to frame the shot in a way that the background wasn't cluttered with all my parents stuff. Also rules are meant to be broken. Don't get me wrong composition and exposure are key to a pleasing shot but take your camera out at noon when the sun is directly over head and see if you can come up with a good shot, challenge yourself. Lastly never stop shooting take as many pictures you want you can always disregard them later.
