Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in October in Harriman State Park in upstate NY, I am an amateur photographer utilizing a Nikon Coolpix L330. The contrast was set to the programmed outside setting, no extra exposure was used.

Time

This photo was taken after a 6 mile hike on one of the trails and on the way back I saw a great vantage point in between the creek to take a picture that got a great shot of the whole creek bed and surrounding tree line to really capture the fall foliage. This photo was taken 10/18/2013 at about 3 pm.

Lighting

I ensured that the photo was taken in the afternoon on the way back from my hike as the sun setting would give off a better display of the colors of the treeline and also give a bit of a reflection off the water to add to the shot.

Equipment

I used a Nikon Coolpix L330, no extra equipment was used for this shot as I was just on a hike.

Inspiration

I went on this hike to try and get a few shots on the overlook during the hike but I happened upon this shot on the way back from my hike and usually that's when you find the best shots.

Editing

I simply added the shot onto my computer, no need for extra editing after the shot was taken.

In my camera bag

I normally just carry my digital camera and extra batteries as they usually die quickly, especially when trying to focus the lens over a vista.

Feedback

I would highly recommend planning your outings during sunrise or sunset so you can obtain the best natural transitions as possible. I tend to get the best shots during the transition from early afternoon into evening and it also puts a time constraint to get your shot because the lighting changes rather quickly.
