Location
This photo was taken at my home as a result of just following my cat around trying to get a good shot of her face - she's so expressive and inquisitive and I wanted to capture that.Time
This photo was taken around noon on a sunny day,Lighting
I love how the light was spilling in from an adjacent window and I didn't need to use any other artificial lights. It helps that the carpet and walls were a very light colour to bounce the light around.Equipment
Canon EOS 7D - my first "real" camera (I now use a 5D). Aperture f/1.8?ISO 400?Shutter 1/90?Focal Length 50/1Inspiration
Honestly I love taking photos of my cats and I can be found following them around everywhere with my camera. Sometimes they are into it and sometimes they are definitely not. This girl was a rescue so was very food motivated and all I needed to do was carry a treat or two next to the lens and she was very interested.Editing
Not much post processing on this one - I let nature speak for itself. In my camera bag
I carry in my bag a Canon 5d as my main camera with the 7d as back up - I have all kinds of lenses so I can be prepared for anything. If I'm out shooting landscapes I've got a tripod and rain sheild. I am not much of a strobe light/artificial light master so I like to use windows for natural light. For the odd times I need it I do have a flash.Feedback
Be patient and be persistent - you won't likely get "that shot" on the first try - especially when animals are involved - they tend to do their own thing. If it's an animal you don't know well - get them used to the camera and yourself first. Angles are also important - try shooting from different levels - down on the ground, straight on - and for this particular photo I was standing over top of my cat so she was looking up at me. It also helped that I had a small treat in my hand next to the camera lens for a bit of extra interest, toys work too.
