My college age daughter and I went to the Saint Louis Zoo on a nice Spring day in April 2014. I was excited to have a new DSLR camera and couldn't think of a better place to practice than our zoo. We were watching the elephAnts and I was able to get this great shot of mommy and new baby elephant.Time
If I remember correctly, this was taken in mid morning and I took pictures from many angles until I found the spot I liked best.Lighting
I didn't need to do much adjustment with my camera since it was an outside shot. I set my camera on Auto and just kept moving around the pens will taking shots. This was my favorite one.Equipment
My camera is Nikon D3200....I used my 50-200mm Zoom lens, no flash on Auto Setting. Polarizing filter on my lens.Inspiration
My inspiration was to get fun shots of the animals. When I saw the baby near by I waited for it to meet up with his mommy. Tips I have found while photographing animals at the Zoo. BE PATIENT!!! You need to wait for the right moment to get the great shots.Editing
The only post processing done was cropping and enhancing the vibrancy and clarity. In my camera bag
Regular equipment in my bag. Camera body, 2 lenses....18-55mm and 50-200mms. Polarizing filters for both lenses, Sun shield for lenses, extra batteries and SD cardsFeedback
Photographing animals at the Zoo is one of my favorite locations. When the weather is nice and the sky is clear you can't ask for better conditions. Like I mentioned before. BE PATIENT !!!....the animals can be lazy but they make great subjects for fun shots that will tell a story. Turn your camera on Auto or Manual , set it to take multi shots and click away. Make it a day of fun.
