The photo was taken in my backyard in Henderson Nevada. The most common species of hummingbirds found in our area are the Costa's, Aana's and Black chinned.Time
Every morning I have coffee on my patio and I always have my camera at the ready. The photo was taken at approximately 8 o'clock in the morning.Lighting
I live in Henderson Nevada and we get approximately 300 days of sunshine every year. I have hummingbird feeder's in my yard and I constantly move them around to take full advantage of the lighting conditions.Equipment
The photo was taken with a Nikon D7100 and a Tamron 150-600mm lens. I handhold my camera and lens for flying bird shots.Inspiration
My inspiration comes from a desire to capture the perfect image of a hummingbird. I think that hummingbirds are one of the most fascinating creatures on the planet. I believe that hummingbirds are probably one of the most difficult subjects to photograph sharp and in focus.Editing
For this particular image I adjusted the sharpness and clarity. I try to limit post-processing to as little as possible. I use a free Photo Shop Express App and i do all of the post-processing on my iPad. I never add to an image or remove anything from an image that doesn't appear on the raw photo. I would much rather spend my time trying to improve my photography skills rather than trying to improve my editing skills. In my camera bag
My favorite camera body is a Nikon D7100 and my favorite lens is a Tamron 150-600mm. I have a Nikon D5300 body that gets a fair amount of use as well. I use different lenses for wildlife and landscape. I like to use a Sigma 10-20 mm f3.5 for landscapes.Feedback
The best advice I can offer is to take many test shots with different settings to achieve the best image possible. I always carry my iPad with me and load test shots on it because you can view on a larger screen to determine the best settings. Get to know your camera and change the set up to suit your needs. I find that hand holding my camera and lens allows me a much faster reaction time when trying to capture flying birds.
