Behind The Lens

Location

In the back garden at home.

Time

Mid afternoon.

Lighting

Normal daylight with a 50mm 1.8 Lens.

Equipment

Canon 7d with a 50mm F1.8 lens

Inspiration

My daughter, shown in the shot loves butterflies and it just so happens one landed on her. Nothing special about this particular butterfly, just a plain cabbage white. My daughter had a pretty dress on and her hIr took back but looking natural just prompted me to run for the camera and get shooting.

Editing

Yes definitely, I wanted to make both my daughter and the butterfly stand out from the rest of the surrounding background. Looking for something fairytale as my daughter was definitely away with the fairies with the tiny captivating creature perched on her. The processing did just that !! I am really happy with the results. Black and white with lots of contrast with a boost to brighten the subject and soften the outlines.

In my camera bag

Canon 7d. 100-400mm canon IS Lens. Canon 50mm f1.8 two spare batteries lots of 4Gb CF cards just in case one goes corrupt. Rocket air blaster for dusting.

Feedback

Always have a camera at hand, try to keep it out of the bag if your not transporting it, especially at home as you never know when that moment will arrive.
