Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in San Antonio on the River Walk across from the Alamo.

Time

Late afternoon

Lighting

This photo used natural lighting.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D90 handheld with a 50mm f1/8 lens.

Inspiration

I was exploring the Riverwalk and saw this fountain with its repeating pattern. I had just purchased my 50 mm lens and wanted to experiment with depth of field.

Editing

I used Lightroom to increase sharpness and then used Silver Efex Pro 2 to convert to black and white

In my camera bag

Now I travel with a Sony mirrorless camera and a zoom lens for weight concerns. Man I wish I had a Nikon D5.

Feedback

When shooting hand held find some to brace yourself against and control you breathing. I find it to be meditative in capturing a moment in time. Don't rely on shooting 5-10 frames per second in the hopes of getting 1 in focus.
