A trip to Hyde Park in London led to finding this little girl overwhelmed by eager, hungry birds...
This image has a great feeling of melancholy.
Although you cannot see the face of the subject the stance is that of a lost and quiet abandon.
Completeley unfazed by the attention she is receiving from the throng of hungry birds.

This photograph was taken in Hyde Park, London. I was taking a slow walk around the Serpentine watching the wildlife and the light on the water when I came across this young girl wading through a throng of birds without fear or intimidation. She was a sea of calm amongst the madding gang of wildlife surrounding her.Time
It was a cold, grey afternoon in winter... the sun was starting to disappear and the scenes were looking dull and flat, so I decided to play with the exposure and recreate the mood I was feeling from the young girl in the imageLighting
I was aiming to show a scene of calm and melancholy (b&w image with soft edges), with a hint of drama and energy (catching the birds in flight, harsh b&w tones)Equipment
This was taken using my rather battered and won Canon 350D and standard 55m lensInspiration
Whilst walking around the madness of central London I decided that I wanted to try and find some examples of the calm and serenity that can also be found hidden in majestic hidden corners of the city. And this little girl had all that and more...Editing
I cropped this image slightly to provide the focus on the central horizon line, keeping the eerie darkness of the treeline in the top half of the shot an dadding more emphasis on the horizontal striations. In my camera bag
I don't normally take a lot of equipment with me when I go out, but I usually have a good cleaning cloth, a small tripod and some warm gloves....Feedback
Take several shots adjusting the aperture, exposure and ISO gradually until you find the right fit for the look you want. Don't be afraid to play and experiment
