Behind The Lens
Location
This Photo was taken of a small church in Chilham, near Canterbury. I chose these specific doors because of their extravagance against the church.Time
The image of the moon was taken at about eleven pm; It was one of the first images i had taken of the night's sky and i was pleased with how it turned out. on The day i took the photo of the church, i had been for a country walk looking for the correct doors and found these at around midday.Lighting
I wanted to create a surreal and fantasy-inspired image, so although the photo was taken in direct sunlight, I converted it into black and white and heightened the contrast to get a more striking photo as well as being able to blend with my image of the moon better.Equipment
The shot of the moon was taken on a tripod using a Canon 600D with a 300mm lens. The photo of the doors was also taken on a Canon 600D with a EF100mm lens. no other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was partaking in a project on how photographers distort reality and i was looking at surrealism and dreams. I took inspiration from C S Lewis' The chronicles of Narnia' as i liked the idea of a world that lived just beyond a set of doors, an escape from mundane life. I created a set of images that had hidden places or objects behind them, such a a suitcase which opened to a flight of stairs leading to an unknown place.Editing
Due to me wanting to distort and manipulate reality, i layered the image of the doors over the photo of the moon and erased the doorway to expose the moon underneath. I also converted the image to black and white and heightened the contrast as well as giving the image a slight vignette to put the focus on the moon even more.In my camera bag
I usually pack light and take only equipment needed depending on what sort of photography i am hoping to achieve. I am usually with my Canon 600D, EF 18-55mm lens, my 75-300mm lens and my tripod. Being quite new to photography i don't have all the equipment i want yet, but can make do with the lens' and image software that i have.Feedback
sometimes it is good to explore places you wouldn't usually go as places can hold hidden gems, such as these extravagant doors which were hidden behind a tiny old, church.
