I saw the banner photo on the Rainbow contest and new I recognized this house on the cliff. Sure enough I was right it is from Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec, I haven't been there in years ( my sister in-law is from a town not far from there ) so long ago that all my pictures are on film. :) Beautiful capture!!

I took this photo in Percé, Quebec, from the Bonaventure Island cruise boat. The cruise takes you out to the pierced rock and then around Bonaventure Island, where you'll see the largest breeding colony of Northern Gannets in the world, as well as numerous other sea birds and seals. You can get off the boat and explore the island and then just catch a later boat back to the mainland. Unfortunately, we were unable to get off the boat because we were travelling with our two small dogs, who were not permitted on the island. Travellers with dogs should be aware that dogs are not allowed in Provincial Parks in Quebec, which is otherwise a wonderful place to visit.Time
The "worst" time of day, most landscape photographers would say! I took this right around midday, but it didn't really matter because it was so overcast.Lighting
The cloud cover made the light nice and even and diffused, even though it was early afternoon.Equipment
I took this photo with a Nikon D3200 with a 70-200 mm f/2.8 lens at 70mm, f/5.6, 1/400 sec, ISO 400. Handheld, no flash.Inspiration
I loved the composition of the two white houses with red trim, so similar and yet one is well kept and one has seen better days. The cliffs were so colorful and actually kind of shiny and metallic in parts.Editing
Confession time...I added the rainbow in post. I took the photo of the rainbow from the car on the following day. We were driving on the highway and there just wasn't any good scenery to put with the rainbow, so I just snapped a few shots for my "replacement skies" folder. I really liked this photo and although I took a similar shot the following day with sunny blue skies and fluffy white clouds, I preferred the moody atmosphere of this one, but it just felt like it needed something to take it from "good" to "great". The rainbow was it! I have this photo blown up huge in my living room, printed on a pearl finish paper and it is just luminous. In my camera bag
These days, I always have my Nikon D7100. If I am shooting portraits, I will have my 24-70mm f/2.8, a couple of speedlights and a reflector. For landscapes and wildlife, I take my 70-200mm f/2.8, my 10-24 mm f/3.5-4.5, a circular polarizer, possibly my spare body (D3200) so I don't have to change lenses in the field and my canon macro filter that screws on to the front of my lens so that I can take close ups of interesting flora and tiny fauna.Feedback
Although an overcast day might seem like it will lead to "blah" photos, many of my favourite landscapes have been taken on overcast or downright stormy days. Take advantage of cloudy days to take evenly lit photos that don't include the sky, or look for those moments when a bit of sun breaks through the clouds and you can get amazing sunrays and very dramatic skies. If worst comes to worst, just toss in a rainbow...it always works for me ;)
