This beautiful model was photographed in our studio using a technique a backlighting against a velvet backdrop.Time
This was the last shot of the day having been shooting on location as part of a fashion shoot. We had previously done some work on art nude but wanted to improve on previous images so used the spare time at the end of the day to set the shot up.Lighting
The set up was a low key black backdrop with two strobes (500W Bowen Strobes) modified using 70cm silvered beauty dishes and honeycombs to direct the light. These were placed either side of the model slightly above head height and 45 degrees to the model.Equipment
This was taken with a Canon 5D mk II with the 25-105 L zoom lens hand held set at ISO 200 and a time of 1/160s.Inspiration
Elle, the model is very proud of her body and wanted to show that the older model could still be beautiful. She had taken up modelling later in life having had a family but wanted to show the ex the mistake he had made in leaving such a beautiful woman. Her personality, confidence and ability to model shine through in the image. From a photographers point of view it was all about the lighting and trying to perfect the backlighting technique using strobe and beauty dishes but keep the beauty of an older model using the technique.Editing
There is very little post processing apart from skin smoothing and a slight deepening of the shadows and increase of the blacks. Portrait pro was used for the skin smoothing and Lightroom 4 was used for all other enhancements.In my camera bag
I normally carry a Canon 5D Mk ii and a canon 7D as backup. Lenses are a sigma 18mm ex Fisheye, canon 24-105L F4 zoom lens, Canon 70-200L F4 zoom lens, Sigma 24-70 EX F2.8 Zoom Lens and a Sigma 10mm EX F1.8 lens. I carry 4 flashes and a range of triggers with a variety of modifiers.Feedback
