Location
The photograph was captured at Ventura Harbor where the breakwater begins to enter the ocean. Across from the point is a city park where residents can watch the boats come and go.Time
It was approximately 3:00PM in the afternoon when the tall Ship was scheduled to sail out into the Pacific Ocean.Lighting
I had to pick a position where the Sun would be behind me and about 45 degrees to my left to use a Polarizer Filter on the sky. I needed late afternoon light for the sails.Equipment
The equipment for this capture was: Canon EOS 1000D 70 - 300mm f/4 - 5.6, set at 75mm Tripod with cable shutter releaseInspiration
I was trying to capture an old Tall Ship under full sail with passengers on board. The ship used it's on board diesel engine to navigate out the harbor.Editing
Post Processing included sizing for printing at 11 x 14 inch, Tone Mapping, and a touch of Levels. In my camera bag
Camera body, 70 - 300mm zoom lens, 18 - 70mm zoom lens, cable shutter release, external flash, flash bracket, flash cable, polar filter, graduated ND filter, batteries, cleaning supplies, lens covers, filter holder, scraps of misc. paper.Feedback
