I wanted to capture the horizon while creating perfect black silhouettes of the people and sailboat, so increasing the contrast slightly and arranging the shot with the radar mast blocking the middle of the sun, helped to reduce the glare and and light flares from the sun, balancing out the photo.Equipment

We had just dropped anchor to settle in for the night on the boat, and the sun going down was just the perfect backdrop to a perfect day sailing around the marvelous Whitsunday Islands.Editing

It is called the Golden Hour for very good reason, just before sunrise and sunset provides the most incredible light for photography purposes and just generally pleasant times of day to enjoy nature's eye candy, even without a camera. My favorite sunrise/sunsets are when there is a storm either coming or going over the horizon for the suns lights to bounce off the crazy cloud formations, creating some really spectacular colors and patterns across the sky to give you photos an absolutely epic feel.
