Taken for grade 12 photography class this has always been my favourite picture. It is so interesting because it was actually in the morning but the effects of the lighting make it seem like it was taken in the middle of the night.

This photo was taken at my Dad's old farm house. I was so amazed with myself, as I'm learning with each and every picture and this one just came out so well!Time
This will always be my favourite photo because looking at the photo it seems like it was taken in the middle of the night but it was not. I remember exploring the farm house that my dad was living at, each space was creepy in it's own way. This light fixture was on the wall in my Dad's bedroom right when you came in the door. My Dad always talked about it flickering at strange times and we all believed the house was haunted. The energy in the bedroom was chilling even in the middle of the day and that light had flicked after I took this photo. This photo was taken around 1:30 pm on a hot summer's day.Lighting
Before taking this photo I really wanted the only light to be coming from the lightbulb as I wanted it to be the focal point of the photo. The windows on the other side of the room were messing with the light and I needed it to be darker so I closed as much of the blinds as I could and hoped the room was dark enough for a mysterious photo.Equipment
This image was shot with a Nikon D3100 with a 18-55mm lens, no other equipment was used.Inspiration
This photo was actually taken with a borrowed camera from my local high school. I had always borrowed the film cameras as I loved the darkroom process but my teacher wanted me to expand out more with my photography. So with little knowledge I took the camera with me for the weekend. At the time I was obsessed with creepy photos like the ones you see with hidden 'ghosts' that the photographer never saw when taking the picture. The farmhouse was perfect and this light just pulled me in.Editing
No for this picture I did not do any post-processing. Believe it or not this was the very first picture I shot of this light and I was happy with it.In my camera bag
At the moment I'm carrying with me a small LowePro backpack. It allows me to carry my NikonD5200 along with it's 18-55mm lens safely. I also have a Minolta XG-M camera from my Dad, it was his when he was a teenager. At a garage sale I came across an amazing find and bought a rainbow stripe Polaroid Land Camera for $5 so sometimes I will bring that along even though I'm still hesitant to use it.Feedback
As a self-taught photographer the best advice I can give is to never doubt yourself. I never thought I would be successful at photography and it feels good to have people say you're really talented at what you love doing. Think of it as diving off a diving board, you don't hesitate you just go for it and hope you hit the water the right way.
