Behind The Lens

Location

Capital Reef National Park, UT.

Time

Late afternoon.

Lighting

October light creates a low angle which is comparable to studio lighting.

Equipment

Canon t4i camera, sigma 18-250mm lens, circular polarizing filter, and tripod.

Inspiration

This particular area is photographed daily by scores of photographers; however, creating a scene with interesting lighting and a pleasing composition offsets the casual snapshot.

Editing

Yes; this photo is an HDR that was post processed in photomatix. I combined three photos one under exposed, on at proper exposure and one over exposed. This helped retain highlights in the shadow areas. I held back on over saturation or sharpening in photo shop because I want the scene rendered the way one would view it if actually there.

In my camera bag

150mm macro lens, 18-250mm macro lens, 80-300mm macro zoom lens, 1.4X teleconverter, 150mm-500mm lens, 12-35mm lens, 24mm lens, 50mm lens, two sets of extension tubes, various filters, two canon flashes, 18-135mm lens, and 80-400mm lens.

Feedback

Patience, and scouting out a spot prior to shooting, greatly aids one in selecting a better composition; especially of scenes where many professional images have been taken.
