Behind The Lens

Location

This image was captured at Maybry Mill, located at Meadows of Dan, Virginia. This mill is purportedly the most photographed mill in the United States.

Time

The image was captured right around lunchtime on a rainy Autumn afternoon.

Lighting

The image was captured using nothing but natural light.

Equipment

Shot with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel, f/8, 1/125 sec., ISO-200, 41mm focal length. It was shot using the 3 exposure HDR method, bracketed at -2/+2. I then used Photomatix Pro to adjust the HDR image, and GIMP to apply a painted "look".

Inspiration

We were taking our first drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall. All the leaves were turning and the mill was absolutely beautiful that day.

Editing

It was shot using the 3 exposure HDR method, bracketed at -2/+2. I then used Photomatix Pro to adjust the HDR image, and GIMP to apply a painted "look".

In my camera bag

My Canon Rebel T5, and my Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 lens

Feedback

Capture everything you see. The most mundane things in some people's eyes are the most beautiful to others. Always try to see beauty. Because it exists in everything.
