Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in the Sooke Basin at a marina where I lived. The area was often picturesque so I made it a habit to take my camera whenever I went wandering

Time

This was taken first thing in the morning on a walk with my dogs.

Lighting

The whole area was socked in with a thick fog as well as overcast and raining so it had a very dark, but warm feel to it.

Equipment

This shot was taken with a FinePix waterproof point and shoot (great little camera). It was an obviously damp morning so when I set out on a walk with my dogs, I left the fancy stuff at home and grabbed the waterproof camera

Inspiration

The heavy fog served to remove anything distracting in the background and the way the birds had gathered around the pilings made it an irresistible shot. However, I didn't plan the raindrops which is what makes this photo special

Editing

This was a natural "black and white" photo but came off the camera more cool than in reality. I added a Sepia filter to bring the white balance closer to the real thing. The circles in the photograph are raindrops caught in the frame, NOT as a result of post-processing.

In my camera bag

I usually have a Canon 7d, a Sigma 10-20 wide angle, a Tamron 90mm Macro, a Tamron 17-55mm, and a Canon 50mm
