Location
This image was shot at the Carriage House Studio in Washington DC, where I was experimenting with low-key lighting and shadows with the graceful and versatile model, Zoe Celeste West.Time
This image was shot indoors, in the evening at about 7pm, with minimal ambient light. In the absence of the continuous light that was used, it was almost completely dark in the studio. Or should i say, dark enough for me to worry that one of us may trip over the wires.Lighting
Lighting for this shot was a single directional continuous warm light on a stripbox, placed to the right of the camera.Equipment
Canon 5D MkIII, Tamron 70-200mm F/2.8 lens, 1/30 sec shutter, hand held. No flashInspiration
I wanted to create a tasteful but powerful image of the feminine form that goes beyond highlighting the obvious curves. This was a natural moment of contemplation and reflection, where the lighting, shadows and posing came together. This image reminds me of a graceful flame that rises from a candle.Editing
I did some smoothing of the skin using Portrait Pro, and some basic RAW file editing using Photoshop CC.In my camera bag

Sometimes its the moment between the poses that suddenly become the ideal image. Hence, keep on the lookout for those fleeting moments of expressions from your client / subject.
