This photograph was taken in my home, the light in the bedroom looked gorgeous so we ventured out of the home studio space to play with the natural light against the bedroom wall.Time
This photograph was taken mid morning (I think!). It was at the beginning of my session with my beautiful model, Lady Fae. She had bought with her bags of clothing and jewellery, so we had been playing around with a slightly tribal/bohemian loo to match her hairstyle which was a Frida Kahlo inspired flower 'do'. The long flowing skirt was perfect for movement so I asked her to dance!Lighting
The soft natural light window light diffused by the bedroom curtain created a perfect light to get some interesting movement blur.Equipment
Nikon D700 and Nikon 24-70mm f 2.8 lens, I actually moved the camera with her to add to her movement.Inspiration
I love soft subtle nude/semi nude photography that has an evocative/mysterious feel. The long flowing skirt seemed too static in stills and my models attire had so much energy and soul, so the photograph needed to move.Editing
From the RAW file, I added my favourite black and white mix that adds a warm silver tone to the image. I didn't want colour to distract from the energy and movement. I added a vignette as this enhanced the mysterious feel of the photograph. In my camera bag
At the moment: my Nikon D750 with my Nikon D700 as a backup in the car. Lenses: Nikon 85mm f 1.8, nikon 24-70 f 2.8, Tamron 70-200 2.8, and my new favourite the Sigma Art Series 35mm f 1.4 (normally, though, I just take the lenses I need for each specific shoot). In terms of accessories, I have my 2 SB900 Nikon Flash units, some flash gels, Enloop batteries, and my Pixel King Pro remote triggers, a few light stands and some umbrellas or portable soft boxes. Last but not least: a tonne of rubber bands, bobby pins, pegs, masking tape, bandaids, pain killers and Blue Tak (you never know what you might need!).Feedback
This was a very simple setup, the model standing with a large diffused light source on her right. I adjusted my aperture until I could get a long enough exposure for some movement blur. I tried quite a few different options and experimented with moving my camera at the same time to add to the blur. This type of capture is very much about experimentation. I took a number of frames and, in post, narrowed the series down to about four frames which I felt really worked. So, a lot of trial and error and a very patient dizzy model!
