Behind The Lens
Location
This shot was taken in Stanley Park in Vancouver, BC. We were out strolling around on a nice day by Lost Lagoon, and this Swan swam up very close to were I was sitting just admiring the pond and the birds. I had been trying out a "new-used" macro lens with flower shots, so I didn't really have time to change the lens when this swan came along, so I just starting clicking away. I just happened to be sitting on the right bench at the right time to get this shot.Time
This was taken in the late afternoon sun at the end Feburary 2015. I remember it being a beautiful day for an afternoon stroll in the park, and I just so happened to get this beautiful portraitLighting
I had situated myself on bench so the sun was mostly behind me. So when this beautful swan came along I was able to capture the nice lighting on the feathers and the water droplets beading off the feathers.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 40D and an older Sigma 90mm. Iso 100, -1EV, f/7.1 1/500sec. We had bought the lens second hand to try out, and it happens to take lovely pictures. Turns out old lens can be just as good as the new expensive ones.Inspiration
I think you can be inspired by the beautiful things that are presented to you at the time. In this instance it was the swan. It had been sticking it's head in the water to bath, so the water beads on it's feathers looked extra special in the sunlight.Editing
Only basic post-processing, like slight change in the exposure, slight increase in contrast, and a few shadows. In my camera bag
I am just getting into photography, so I am still starting out and trying out new things to see how I like it. Fortunetly, my partner has some very nice lens, so I get to try out his as well. I inherited his Canon 40D, which I love, and I just recently purchased a used Canon 70-200mm f/4L-series lens. I also have the Sigma 90mm for some flower macro, and I am borrowing a canon 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STMFeedback
I am learning more and more about patience. Sometimes just sitting on a park bench to wait and observe, things just come to you!
