Behind The Lens
Location
We shot at a local park just as the leaves were starting to fall. There were many other shots done in the trees and grass but I chose cement for a nice simple look that would bring the eyes directly to the heart hair.Time
Evening is my favourite time to shoot, you know... the beautiful golden light. If I remember correctly it was overcast when I took this photo. It took some time to get their hair arranged in to the heart shapes but it was worth it I think!Lighting
I tend to shoot with a flatter lighting when it comes to children, teens and families. I love that it makes the images bright and brings attention directly to the faces.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5d mark iii and a 24 - 70 lens. No lighting, no tripod and I probably held the camera over their heads without looking in to the viewfinder.Inspiration
These girls were going through a difficult time in their lives so I wanted their photo shoot to really remind them of the love they have for each other. Sisters need to stick together!Editing
My post processing is so simple. I always get the shot as perfect as I can in camera and then I add a little bit of brightness and contrast using a curves layer in Photoshop. In my camera bag
My bag is always packed with two Canon 5 d mark iii's just in case one kicks the bucket. My favourite lens, the 85mm 1.2, a 24- 70, 70 - 200 for beautiful headshots and a 100 L macro for little baby feet, hands, eyes and the odd day out to shoot the details such as plants, mushrooms and flowers in the forests.Feedback
I think this is a pretty simple portrait to capture if you want to try it yourself. Choosing an overcast day or the shadow of a building or a trees would help keep the faces evenly lit.
