Absolutely stunning! That must have been amazing to be there and witness that. Very well done.

Location
Trillium Lake, Oregon.Time
First light, approximately 6:00 AMLighting
I climbed out of the sleeping bag at first light and ambled down to the lakeshore still rubbing sleep out of my eyes. One never really knows what to expect, especially after it has been raining all night. In this case I was blessed with just enough cloud cover to keep the atmospherics interesting while still providing a clear view of Mount Hood.Equipment
Canon 7d and Tokina 11-16mm mounted on a Sirui travel tripod about a foot off the ground.Inspiration
This is an iconic spot for photos for anyone living in Oregon or the Pacific Northwest.Editing
Other than bringing the shadows up in post this image did not require much post processing. In my camera bag
I try to travel light. I usually have a Tokina 11-16 and a Canon 24-105 L, but if I think I am going to be shooting wildlife I will take along my Canon 100-400 L. I carry a 580EX with wireless trigger for times I might need some fill flash. I usually use a carbon Sirui travel tripod that only weighs a couple of pounds. A polarizer and a couple ND filters and my camera usually fill out the kit.Feedback
Get up early while the water is still calm and the crowds are still sleeping. Keep your fingers crossed for good light.
