Location
Elephant Whispers Just North of Hazyview in South Africa. Our tour guide helped raise an orphaned elephant that is now one of a number cared for by the center. I am very wary of visiting places that have captive animals. This one, however, has a great reputation for looking after its elephants.Time
Taken at 12:32 in the afternoon.Lighting
Despite appearances, the light was pretty flat. Overcast & raining. Despite this, the contrast in the photo was great as the elephant was wet from the rain. Rain can add sparkle to an otherwise flat day.Equipment
Canon ES7D, Ef24-105mmf/4L IS USMInspiration
I love elephants. They are wonderful caring creatures. Their interactions just make me smile. I have a collection of 8500 shots that include elephants. I defy anyone not to take a swag of shots when you have a close encounter with a herd!Editing
As a starting point, I apply a preset to all the photos that I import into Lightroom. +5 Whites -5 Blacks. Sharpening 27 at 74 masking. Minimum noise reduction. Apply Camera - Lens Profile and Remove Chromic Aberration For this image no cropping and spot adjustment of +17 Clarity and Sharpness to eye and tusk.In my camera bag
I am a Wildlife Artist and Photographer I chose the 7D and &D Mark 11 for the extra magnification on the crop sensor. My carry on camera bag for travels weighs 14kg. It contains all my essential Camera gear including laptop, card reader, chargers, hard drives, cables, shoulder stock. Shooting with a Canon 7D and 7D Mark11, 100-400 1:4.5-5.6 L IS 11 USM. & 24-105 1:4. I rarely use a tripod but take advantage of every steady support I can find.Feedback
Disappointing and difficult conditions can produce wonderful photographic outcomes with a bit of creativity. Take every opportunity. Zoom in or close cropping can add drama and impact to an image.
