Beautiful cathedral, its enormous size and location make it a difficult subject. Great capture. Brings back good memories of being there.

St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague - it is not easy to get a good image of this iconic building without having people in front of it so I decided instead of trying to do that to take a different approach and it worked.Time
It was late afternoon - after most of the museums at the Castle had already closed so the light was not the best at this time but I gave it my best shot anyway - I was hoping to get some more golden glow during the sunset but it never eventuated.Lighting
Lightning was relatively poor I must say - long shadows and the sun disappearing fast the added challenge of course taking the photo against the skyEquipment
Just freehold Nikon D3200 with my Tamron 18-270 Travel lens - no flashInspiration
I love churches and Cathedrals - their sheer size always amazes me and I try every single time to get an angle in my photographs that will show not just the detail but also that size without blowing out on the edges and the lines. Every single one these is different and I try to find a viewpoint that showcases what makes this one different to others.Editing
Yes in this instance I had to - the exposure was not right due to the lightness of the sky and the lateness of the day so I had to tweak that and also had to get a bit more contrast in - all done in lightroomIn my camera bag
I am increasing my gear as I am writing this with a nice fast prime lens but normally I only pack my D3200 - I know entry level but she does me good - my Tamron travel lens 18-270mm and my Sigma 10-24mm wide angle lens plus of course usually my tripod (MeFoto) but that is it. Most importantly to me is not so much the gear but the location.Feedback
As I mentioned earlier I love churches and cathedrals and most people tend to try and get the whole one in - from far away or by using a super wide angle lens - I am on the other hand go close - walk around the whole building if I can - look for different angles and also details that others may miss - I also tend to switch lenses - I do try the wide angle and if it does not work for what I had in mind - switch back to my Tamron. Above all - I take my time - I used to take photos with film - so every single one counted.. now a lot of people just shoot and do not pause to think about their composition or what they are shooting..
