This photo was taken on the main street bridge in my hometown of Carleton Place, Ontario , Canada. It's the side of a beauty parlor but over a hundred years ago it was an old funeral home. They used to store the bodies and caskets on the second floor and brought them down for services. The extra wide staircase is still there.Time
I shot this at around 7:30 in the evening in early October. My Aunt had given me her Sigma 10-20mm lens to try out, so I decided to take a walk downtown to see what this lens could do.Lighting
I got lucky with the cloud cover that had slowly taken over the sky when I took this picture. The sunset was pretty intense but there was a storm coming in from the east. I think my patience paid off because I really like how this image was lit.Equipment
I shot this with a Nikon D7100 with a Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX HSM, hand held.Inspiration
Nothing really. Right place right time I guess. It was one of those shots where you watch it being created in front of you and all you gotta do is pull the trigger.Editing
I only took one exposure of this and I've been kicking my butt ever since. I wish I could go back and re-shoot it with bracketed shots and a tripod. I went online to see if I could make an HDR image with one exposure in Photoshop and I think it turned out ok.In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D7100, Nikkor 35mm f/1.8g AF-S, Nikkor 50mm 1.85g AF-S, Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5g ED-VR and a Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Macro OS HSM. It may not be the best stuff but I'm happy with it.Feedback
Have patience! I'm an amateur photographer and I find I tend to rush things sometimes. Remember to relax, slow down and think through your settings and composure before you take your shot. Make sure to have fun too!
