I absolutely love this!! You're very talented and creative! It also brings back great childhood memories because when I was a little kid and Mom would read to me, this is what the book looked like - it popped off the page and seemed like a reality. Excellent work and congrats on your Finalist Award!!

This photo is a collage of photos I found around the internet. I stitched together around 20-30 different photos on a picture of an open book I found. This was probably one of the more technically challenging projects I have ever done. Every picture had to be matched to one light source, namely the street lamp in the center right. The most difficult part was finding source photographs whose perspective and lighting matched. Sometimes, I would find a photo that fit the lighting scheme but not the top down perspective of the main source photo. Most notably with the angel fountain in the right. Since the source photo was taken at ground level getting it to fit with the surroundings required a little fudging. This project was unique in that for some of the features I had to actually draw in the aspects by hand, especially with the tree on the left. I couldn't find a single good picture of shrubs or trees that fit with the lighting and angle. So I had to use three different layers of custom scatter brushes that somewhat resembled willow branches. The first layer had dark green for the base, the next had a lighter green to break up the texture, and the final layer had bright green to add some highlights. It's almost like I'm an actual artist or something.Time
I made this during a late night caffine binge, so I would guess anywhere between 12 and 5 amLighting
The shadows sucked to make, adjusting the lighting and specific opacity for all the features took at least two hours on its own.Equipment
I don't actually have any legitimate photography equipment. I don't own a proper camera, I don't have any good lighting rigs or subscriptions to stock photo websites. I am limited to only what I can find online for free. And barring a copy of Photoshop I acquired from a friend I really have no other means of capturing good photos.Inspiration
I was inspired by those old pop-up books you used to read as a kid. People always talked metaphorically about how the characters in books would "leap off the pages". Being a particularly dense child, I was disappointed when most of the books I read did not literally come to life. I was always drawn to pop-books because they lived up to my expectations, they were in a sense "alive". This project was one that I always had in the back of my head, but lacked the technical skill to complete until recently.Editing

All you need to do what I do is a copy of Photoshop, an internet connection, and a few years to kill. Also, learn how to use pen tool, it will significantly increase the quality of your cutouts.
