Location
This is a photo taken at a place called Eleven Mile Beach in Esperance Western Australia.Time
As it was taken in Western Australia its easy to pick this as a Sunrise shot. I remember it was actually my second option to shoot, my first option to shoot was washed out and could not access it so it was by pure happenstance that I ended up here, lucky ha.Lighting
I think that this type of shot really hinges on the sky, the clouds were spread out enough to allow the colours to really come through. I remember it being only a 60 second or so window where the clouds really picked up the colours, highlighting the bottom of them giving them great dimension.Equipment
I used a Pentax 645Z with a 28-45 lens shot at 28mm, most likely equipped with at least one graduated ND filter for the sky. A RRS tripod and ball head, shutter release ect ect.Inspiration
This is my local town, I shoot this spot quite often. My inspiration as with most of my photography is to take a better photo than my last, find new compositions and achieve a unique look.Editing
Of course, I believe every digital photograph can be made better with some sort of post processing. This image is a single frame exposed for the highlights, using really only shadow recovery and saturation increase to get it where it is now.In my camera bag
I shoot a Pentax 645Z with a Nikon D800 as a backup. What I have with me at any given time really depends on my shooting intention. Typically out shooting landscapes I carry My 645Z, a 28-45mm, 90mm macro and a 80-160mm. Always carry a Lee filter kit, three soft ND grads and 3 hard ND grads and of course a landscape polarizer, a cable release with spare batteries ect ect.Feedback
Know your gear, get to understand dynamic range and learn the limitations of your sensor and other gear. Often to get an image to realize as it is in your head you need to do multiple exposures or focus stack. Think of photography as making a photograph and not just taking a picture, approaching it that way forces you to say to yourself "How am I going to make this photograph" then the answer may be something like "well it is too much dynamic range for my sensor so I will need to take multiple shots and blend them" And lastly be disciplined, dont be lazy. If you know that by going just that extra mile your image will be better then go that extra mile, use the cable release for example, dont leave it in the bag because you cant be bothered setting it up. I hope that help some..
