This is a Picture of a Nelson Mandela Protea that I took in the Cape Town Botanical Gardens. What a Magical place.
The protea is named after the "Father" of South Africa, Nelson Mandela who fought apartheid in the early 90's in South Africa.
Mandela since passed away and left a gaping whole. But we as South Africans will always remember him for what he did for our country. A true legend

This photo was taken in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden in Cape Town South Africa. This flower is called the Protea, and it is South Africa's National Flower.Time
I went to the gardens early in the morning in February, which is mid summer in South Africa. I took this photo at around 11 AM as there where so many photo opportunities before I got to the proteas.Lighting
As most people know the best time to take photographs is the golden ours, just before sunrise and just after sunset. If you can plan your trips to get to your target during these hours you will have the best light to get the most out of your photos.Equipment
The Camera I used is a Nikon D5200 with a 18-55mm stock lens as i just started taking photos. No external flash was used and no tripod as the shutter speed were nice and fast.Inspiration
The gardens present so many opportunities to take good photos, but the fact that this is our national flower inspired me to stay a little longer to get the perfect photo of this beauty.Editing
I only did some white-balance correction on the photo as it was quite a cloudy day and the balance was a little off. I used lightroom for the post processing. In my camera bag
I have only been photographing for a short period and my budget is quite small so I have my stock 18-55mm lens for the wide shots, a 55-200mm for some zoom, and then I have my 150-500mm Sigma for capturing birds and wildlife. Apart from the lenses i always carry a lint free cloth for cleaning, my charger and a rain coat for when the weather get wet.Feedback
Be patient, and take many photographs. The more you take, the bigger the chance of getting a really nice one.
