Location
This was taken in Munnar India, on a four month backpack trip. Munnar is famous for it’s endless mountainside landscapes of tea leaf plantations.Time
We got up before 5am as we were going on an eight hour day hike up the side of a mountain.Lighting
It was an amazingly beautiful and ethereal morning, with a blanket of mist hovering over the water. Just as we were getting close to the head of the trail, at the base of the mountain, the sun broke over the mountains edge and illuminated the tips of the Dr.Zeuss-like trees, and lit up the mist. Pure magic.Equipment
Because we were going on an excursion hiking up a mountain, I chose to pack light. I used a pocket camera that still has a decent lens, that I bring on all my travels, my Panasonic DMC-FS42.Inspiration
The inspiration was right there in front of me! All of the natural elements lined up for me at that moment: location, time of day, sunlight, and me being right there to witness it. That’s how the best shots are captured: timing! In most cases I will only take a photo if it is begging to be taken.Editing
I usually just punch up the saturation to give it a vividness that matches my memory, which a camera doesn’t quite seem to capture. I want the viewer to feel like they are actually there, beholding this magnificent sight, and not like they are looking at a photograph. In my camera bag
Normally a Canon body with 300mm lens and the standard 35-80mm lens, a second automatic point and shoot with black and white 35mm film, and my panasonic DMC point and shoot, that fits stealthily in my pocket. On this trip I had to pack light, but I will usually carry a mini tripod in addition for the occasion when night shooting stability is required.Feedback
