Location
This photo was taken at a local wildlife preserve near my hometown.Time
This was taken one morning in February. There was a lot of fresh snow from the night before and on this day it was about 10 degree Celsius below zero. I was literally the only visitor in the park at this time.Lighting
It was completely overcast this day so there was a very soft light. Also the snow reflected the light so the shadows where lightened up.Equipment
This photo was taken with my Pentax K-5 (perfect equipement for this kind of weather ;-) and a Sigma 4.5-5.6/120-400 APO DG OS HSM lens. Additionally I used a monopod. Due to the good light I was able to use only just ISO400.Inspiration
I left home early to be inside the park just at opening time. I was hoping to be nearly alone and undisturbed and I was completely right. To be honest, I was inspired by a lot of photos of Lynx I saw from Fritz Pölking, who was a famous German nature photographer.Editing
This photo didn't need much post processing. I did some slight cropping and pushed the contrast up a bit. I added an unsharp mask at the end and the photo was ready for publishing. In my camera bag
Apart from the Sigma 120-400 mentioned above I own an 8-16 ultra wide angle, also from Sigma. I really love this lens a lot! Everywhere I go I have a Tamron 2.8/17-50 and an old Tamron 2.5/90 Macro (only manual focus) in my bag. Since a year or so I own a Pentax DA* 2.8/50-135 which I bought used. This one deliveres great image quality, I don't want to be without it any more. Latest lens I bought is an old Helios 2/58 which deliveres a great swirly bokeh.Feedback
Don't be afraid of bad weather. Such conditions may bring out great photos that are far from the ordinary. You have to take care of your equipement, though.
