I had literally just gotten my camera a couple of weeks before shooting this, so I truly had very little knowledge or experience with the camera or the settings. I obviously didn't have it on a perfect setting for the shot, but in my defense this was a very candid and spur-of-the-moment shot. My niece was 12 at the time, and we were out driving to visit family when we spotted this huge sunflower field, so I turned the car around to get some pictures of it. My niece just grabbed a flower and playfully made that cute face, not expecting a picture to be taken, but I snapped it quickly to capture the moment. I almost deleted the picture at first because the setting was so wrong for the lighting, but I decided to try to edit it because I like it so much. FINALLY, after much editing, this is the finished product.Equipment
Nikon D5200, no tripodInspiration
I am always very inspired by the innocence of children, and my family means so much to me. My niece is a gorgeous little girl on the verge of becoming a young lady. She is so beautiful and isn't even fully aware of it at this point, so capturing that fun innocence is very inspiring to me. Also I had NEVER seen such a huge sunflower field in my life. Yes, I did this photo more than a year ago, and it needed so much editing that I really couldn't tell you what all I did. I think this may have been the first photo I ever edited using PicMonkey. As I stated above, I almost deleted this photo, but loved it too much not to try to salvage it somehow. With much trial and error, I finally got a viewable photo that apparently people (besides myself) enjoy too. So it's a win/win!In my camera bag
2 lenses, lens extensions, plenty of extra batteries and 2 chargers.Feedback
Always go for the candid shots, have lots of fun with it, and don't be afraid to just shoot and sort it out later if you're a novice like me. Be sure to keep plenty of memory cards with you. Don't ever discard a photo that you love without trying out your editing skills. You may just be able to do more with it than you think. Obviously, a tripod would be the ideal way to shoot portraits, but sometimes that makes people less willing to be candid and relaxed. I just try to find a surface to lean against or prop the camera on in spur-of-the-moment shots such as this one.
