This was taken on my desk in my study at home. The black stripes are plain and simple wrapping paper. The glasses are filled with water and are standing on a glass shelf. This glass shelf is a piece of plain glass perched off the table on 4 empty cold drink bottles. There is a simple desk light under the glass shelf, directed at the background paper.Time
This was day time - some time in the morning and the natural light in the room is quite strong.Lighting
Only 1 desk lamp and lots of natural lightEquipment
Canon 70D. 100 mm Macro lens all on a tripod. 1 desk lamp fitted with a "daylight" globe. No flash.Inspiration
I saw this stripy paper in the supermarket and loved it. I had previously been playing with refracting light through glass and water, so I decided to combine the two elements.Editing
Initially it was cropped very slightly and straighten. I then converted it to true black and white and pushed up the contrasts. I did initially over expose the image slightly, to get the whites as white as possible because I knew I could push up the contrasts in post to get the blacks darker again. In my camera bag
Canon 70D body. Canon 50D body. Tamron 18-270 lens. Canon 100mm macro. Canon 100-400. Speedlight and a ringflash.Feedback
I believe in playing and experimenting. Sometimes when something is too meticulously planned - it doesn't work out. Sometimes, when you least expect it - it does. I had an idea of "refraction" here and just played with that idea.
