Behind The Lens

Location

For anyone who doesn't recognise the most famous and recognisable 'coat hangar' in the world, to the right of the shot you can see the Sydney Harbour Bridge, NSW, Australia. It was New Year Eve so all the boats in the foreground were taking up positions for the firework display later in the night. It was somewhere near Neutral Bay with Kirribilli House around a head land to the right of the shot.

Time

This was taken late afternoon from the eastern side of the bridge looking back over greater Sydney to the west.

Lighting

We took our position up hours before but as the day grew longer the sun descended and began giving off that awesome orange tinted light that is typical at dawn and dusk. The clouds were moving in which added to the dramatic effect of the lighting over Sydney Harbour. Also, I really didn't notice the helicopter...................

Equipment

A hand held Canon 60d. Canon Zoom Lens EF 17-40mm 1:4 L USM.

Inspiration

What inspired me was watching this cloud as it slowly started to cover the sun and hoping that I could take just one shot of the sunlight escaping from behind the cloud. I have always been drawn to photos of 'God Peeking' as there just seems to be something truly spectacular that can be shown. Even though most would see this on a frequent occasion, to capture it and show it is special.

Editing

Honestly, yes, I would have maybe adjusted the colour a bit, contrast a little and light just a touch. I don't like to do much in post processing as I try and capture the shot for what it is. If I don't like it in post processing, I usually skip it and move on to the next.

In my camera bag

Canon. 2 Canon zoom lens's. A speedlite that doesn't get as much use as it should. Filters, spare batteries. Lens cleaner and wipes. Charger, just in case.

Feedback

Patience, take lots of shots and be nice to your Mom ;) Also, I can't unsee the helicopter now..........
