This water lily was taken in my small pond in my garden.Time
It was taken right in the middle of a HOT afternoon, around 1:00pm.Lighting
I love this photo because of the luminescent light radiating from the core of the flower which came from the afternoon sun. There is nothing special to share about the lighting as it all came from the sun. I am not sure though whether this luminescent effect is due to the black umbrella that I used as background as I was not able to get similar effect with my Canon DSLR now.Equipment
This was taken with a Panasonic DMC-FZ60 as I have yet to know how to use a DSLR. In order to get the black background, as I didn't know how to use shutter speed, etc. yet, I place a black umbrella to get the black background. It is because of the outcome of this beautiful image that I finally decided to get a DSLR and learn to use it properly. I put the setting at 'P' so there wasn't much skill involved at my end, only the composition.Inspiration
The beautiful bright colour of this purple lily when reflected by the afternoon sun kept beckoning to me.Editing
None.In my camera bag
Ever since I acquired my Canon 70D, it has been my regular with the Canon 100MM f2.8 kind of permanently attached to it.Feedback
Now that I know similar effects can be achieved by means of playing with shutter speed and focal settings, I would advice others to do the same instead of doing it the way I did, as trying to place the black umbrella and making it stand in the water, while ensuring the angle doesn't show the spines of the umbrella in the hot afternoon sun is not fun, especially since the lily is in the middle of the pond! But once I saw this image, it was totally satisfying that I am able to get this with a relatively cheap camera without all the high-tech properties.
