I took the photo while walking around Lyon on my brief weekend away there.Time
The picture was taken on 6/10/2013 at 18:41 when the sun was ready to disappear.Lighting
Because of the late timing in getting back to the gentlemen (we had walked past them earlier I the day), the light was fading fast. The sun was already getting ready to set so I didn't have massive amounts of light to work with, but luckily enough this worked in my favour, as the statue wasn't becoming blindingly white and getting overexposed, and I was actually able to capture the sky nicely as well.Equipment
The camera that I have is a Kodak Easyshare Z710 Zoom digital camera, and he tends to try and make my picture taking as hard as possible as the old chap is getting quite old now... No other equipment was used as we were walking around Lyon being all touristy.Inspiration
I saw the gentlemen next to the river and I loved how the artist had done their hands and how the fingers seemed to dig into the flesh. Unfortunately in this specific picture you are not able to see the second hand that is supporting the thighs and how it really does look as if the men as flesh instead of stone. I was also intrigued by the fact that the statue was (seemingly) placed randomly on a bit of the river and I started wondering as to whether there was a story behind these men. I never found out if there was...Editing
Yes, I tweaked the colour levels and made the picture a lighter blue instead of the darkish purple that the sunset had made the picture be. I believe I also sharpened the picture a bit. (It has been too long since I worked on this picture for me to actually remember exactly what I did!)In my camera bag
Unfortunately I only have my old camera in my bag, as I have not had the funds to buy a new camera that I could go and buy bits and bobs for.Feedback
If you are trying to capture statues outside, choose your time of day or weather wisely. Especially if you are trying to capture white statues and if you won't be able to fix things in post-processing. It is best to steer clear of noon and beautiful sunny days as you will most likely not get the sort of pictures that you were hoping for.
