Location
I took this photo in the parking garage under the James Monroe Building in downtown Richmond, VA.Time
I took the photo at rush hour, the perfect time to capture all the moving lights for a long exposure!Lighting
I took me a few minutes to get the lighting just right. It's easy for a long exposure to be over or under-exposed.Equipment
I used my old Canon Rebel T2i. I now use a Canon Rebel T5.Inspiration
I had always wanted to capture the iconic monument of Richmond and wanted to get it from the perfect angle. That's when I snuck into the parking garage as the gate opened from someone leaving.Editing
The photo was originally in color. I just changed it to black and white in Lightroom. In my camera bag
My bag usually has my Canon Rebel T5, a Vivitar Speedlite, and a 75-200mm lens. I also have a pelican case that holds all of my studio lighting and other gear.Feedback
Lighting is all about compensating the settings off of each other. If you prolong the shutter speed, make sure you lower the ISO to offset the extra light. Similarly, if you speed up the shutter, bump up the ISO or aperture to compensate for less light entering the lens.
