Behind The Lens

Location

The father in this photo is a real-estate agent and so when it came time to shoot their family photos we used a home that he was helping to sell. This shot was taken in the back of the house around the pool area.

Time

We shot this photo at the end of the family shoot, after already shooting in the home. it was around 6:00pm only a couple hours from sunset.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect that day is about a hour or so from sunset and their was a couple clouds to help disuse the sunlight.

Equipment

This photo was shot using a Nikon D300 no other special equipment.

Inspiration

It was at the end of the family shoot and the little boy was starting to get tired and the father got on his knees and put his arms out to give his son a hug and this was the out come. To me it really shows the love that this father has for his son but it also reminds me of all fathers that are helping their children to weather what ever storms life brings them.

Editing

This photo was shot in RAW and then using photoshop transferred to a JPEG. Then I brought the contrast up to give it more detail and then I decide to give it a B&W treatment and finally I applied a face rain look to give it the feel that the father is sheltering the son from the storm.

In my camera bag

I always carry two camera bodies the Nikon D300 and a Nikon d7100 I also have two speed lights, 3 different Nikon lenes including my favorite a 50mm.

Feedback

When shooting a family always look for a opportunity to capture the candid moments between family members sometimes these moments are the most genuine and help to really capture emotions.
