I was at my fathers house, in the dining room, when I noticed my sisters cat (Tomas) playing in a brown paper bag under the table. He poked his head out for a moment and I fired a few shots. They were all underexposed and bland. I also felt like I was too high up. So I slapped my 580 EX II on, pointed it at the ceiling, got down on my stomach and waited. Eventually he poked his head out of the bag just far enough for the flash light to fall over his striking blue eyes.Time
It was right before dinner.Lighting
Single 580ex II fired straight up at a white plaster ceiling. The catch light card was NOT extended.Equipment
Canon EOS 5D MK II Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 MK II Canon 580 EX II (catch light card NOT extended.)Inspiration
It was fairly spontaneous.Editing
Nothing much other than general white balancing. I did tint the ceiling lamps reflection a slight blue to match his eye. It was a very ugly orange tungsten color. In my camera bag
Usually I carry my 5D MK II around with a 50 mm 1.8 and/or my 100mm f/2.8 USM (not the new L). As well as a 580 EX II.Feedback
Get Low.. like relay low. You have to be on their level. Cats, dogs, turtles, or kids. You need to be seeing "eye to eye" with them as much as you can.
