Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my backyard in Pennsylvania with the thought process in mind of a sultry dewy fill to draw you into the subject.

Time

late morning

Lighting

I just Love Love natural lighting! I would prefer outdoor natural lighting over indoor lighting. You just need to know when to shoot. This portrait was taken in the morning before the sun was over top of the subject. I found the best time to take outdoor shots is morning or early evening.

Equipment

Nikon D90 and the natural light outdoors

Inspiration

I am a self-taught photographer and really got into my photography when the subject desired to pursue modeling. I had created her first portfolio and off to New York she went. From that point I never stopped my love for photography and continually learn with every shot taken.

Editing

Yes. I created a blurry starburst affect in photoshop.

In my camera bag

I usually carry 1-2 cameras. I have Nikon D90 and Nikon D4, a carry several lens such as prime 50, 100, and variable 70-200, macro. I bring extra batteries if I need to use a flash and hoods and diffuser if needed, a trip pod. Other equipment as needed, depending on the location.

Feedback

Dawn and Dusk are the best time to photograph landscapes, portraits, just about anything. Lighting towards evening gives you such a soft golden glow on your subject vs high-noon; shots with the sun overhead is much more harsh and you will find more subjects get blown out. Patience is key, no matter your subject. Know the weather before you head out for the day an photograph, plan ahead and be prepared for changes and location due to elements and other factors that can prohibit you from accomplishing your photo session for the day.
