Location
I took this photograph in front of the church I usually attend to every Sunday. I saw Nanay Ada (Nanay in Tagalog means mother, a sign of respect even if you're not related) sitting on a bench that day. I approached her and asked her what she's doing, which she replied, 'I want to go home, but my ride is still not here.' I took that chance to talk to her and also to ease her boredom while she waits for her ride home. In the middle of our conversation, I asked her if she'd be willing to have her picture taken, and I was so glad that she willingly said yes to my request.Time
I really can't recall the exact time of the day this picture was taken, but it was probably around noon since our service starts from 10am-12pm.Lighting
No special lighting used on this photograph. The environment played a major role on this picture. I didn't ask her to move or anything. I took the picture exactly where she was sitting the day I saw her.Equipment
No special equipment used other than my Nikon d7000 with 18-140mm lens.Inspiration
I've always wanted to take her picture, but timing was always not on my side. I feel like a photograph of her, especially her hands, tells her story even without her opening up to anyone. I hope this picture touched your soul the same it touched mine.Editing
I did a little bit of post-processing. I'm not really good with Photoshop so I only used the processing I'm comfortable using: sharpening, contrast, levels, changing the picture to monochrome, and adding vignette. I'm not a pro when it comes to post-processing. Youtube's tutorial comes in handy especially for a noob like me, though. In my camera bag
Since I'm a student and can't afford to buy all the necessary equipment, I only work with what I have. A Nikon D7000 body and an 18-140mm lens.Feedback
First is to decide which kind of photography you want to do. I love portraiture, and I try to capture a picture that would reflect the story of my subject. For example, Nanay Ada's picture is a reflection of her even without her telling us her story. So decide what you want to photograph and start from there. Once that is settled, then just enjoy every moment. Lastly, you have to love what you're doing. Photography will not make you rich (unless you become really famous), but it will feed the souls of many people. Regardless of the reason why you have decided to do photography, one should have a passion for it because if not then you will not be successful. So love what you do and I'm pretty sure it'll pay off someday.
