Location
This beautiful farm is located just on the outskirts of Brockville Ontario in the 1000 Islands. I've grown up in Brockville and so it's sometimes difficult to see intrigue or find things of interest in an area you are so familiar with. I find I take the beauty here for granted. As I try to become a better photographer, I find myself looking at things I see everyday a bit differently. I have passed by this farm 100+ times and never thought twice about it until I really stopped to look. I had to fend off a lot of mosquitoes being out in the field after the rain but it is always worth it.Time
I took this photo in between rain storms on a warm summer night.Lighting
This was a particularly dark day so a longer exposure was a must.Equipment
I used a Canon T4i with 18-55mm lensInspiration
My grandparents lived on a wonderful little farm when I was young so I often find myself fascinated with barns and farm fields. The sky that evening was particularly ominous as well which made it all the more desirable to shoot.Editing
I did some post processing in Lightroom and Photoshop to bring out more detail in the tree line and accentuate the glow in the background. In my camera bag
I like to carry my T4i with a 50mm fixed lens for the majority of my shoots. I always have a plethora of filters but on this particular shoot I chose to leave them in my bag.Feedback
I had to experiment with different exposure times to get the result I was looking for but because the sun goes down so quickly here I didn't have a lot of time. But rather than stress about it, I went with an attitude of, "If I get it, great! If I don't, I'll try again some other time." Stressing about getting the photo takes all the fun out of something that should really be a relaxing past time.
