Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a concert in Maryland, was able to score a last minute media pass to the event and couldnt resist!

Time

I think this one was taken deep into the night. It was good and bad at the same time since it allowed the lights on stage to be really intense without having the distraction of whats going on outside the area but it was a constant fight to get the settings correct without sacrificing the shutter. Was one of the hardest things Ive gotten to shoot because of the chaos but Also one of the most exciting.

Lighting

With concerts, or anything at night involving lights, I just kept chasing wherever the light was going to be. After a little bit of time you can start to get the pattern down and try to be in an area that is most beneficial to that performance.

Equipment

This was shot on the Fuji-XT1 system with the 35mm pancake lens. It was nice to have something small to weave in and out of the crowd without constantly running into people.

Inspiration

It was honestly a lot of luck and fortunate timing. As I was talking to the media coordinator before going into the pit I heard the loud explosion and ran into the crowd. Things just seemed to turn into this great mass hysteria as it all happened and I just had to cross my fingers that everything worked out!

Editing

I did have to do a bit of work in Lightroom on this image. Simple things like adjusting shadows and highlights mainly with a bit of vibrance to really bring out the colors.

In my camera bag

It varies but lately it is the Fuji with my 50mm equivalent X series lens, a old legacy nikon nikkor 75mm beast and a Nikon D4 with a 12-24, 24-70 and a 80-400 alongside a 10 stop ND filter I have been playing with.

Feedback

For large concerts and raves it helps to look up the shows that have already been played by the groups. You can really get a sense if their stage presence and figure out what shots you would like prior to the concert. Dont try to be gocused entirely on those images though, alot of the best moments I had at this concert were whem I just started wading through the crowd and having fun.
