Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Sibley lake down the road from my house. A self taught photographer would be inaccurate because though I have no formal training I have learned much from other photographers.

Time

This is one of my favorite images and was taken in the winter at about 9:00p.m.

Lighting

The lighting is probably what caught my eye. It gave a unique look for a winter setting without being eerie or snow covered looking with the clouds reflecting the light from the city and the street lights in the middle then the reflection on the lake made everything come together. Even though i cannot remember how long the exposure was-it was enough for what i wanted.

Equipment

This was shot with a Konica-Minolta 7D on a tripod with a Tamron 18-200mm lens and no flash.

Inspiration

I was on my way home from my Cane River Photographic Society meeting for the month and i happened to see this view and had to stop a take some photos. I was was kinda looking for Christmas lights or something interesting and i found it.

Editing

I may have adjusted the exposure or something a little but for the most part this is how it looked in person. The lighting was natural-the clouds reflect the light from the city and the street lights are the rest. I usually do not process much but i am still learning.

In my camera bag

I now carry in my bag a Nikon D7100, Nikkor 50mm 1.8 Prime lense and a Tamron 28-300mm zoom lens. I am working on getting these lenses also-Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 and a Sigma 105mm 2.8.

Feedback

Images like this usually pop up when you least expect it(like when you are trying to get home quickly or when you don't feel like it, etc...) so you should always have your camera with you and keep your eyes open where ever you happen to be.
