Location
This stunning bird was paying very close attention to those around him at the Cougar Mountain Zoo in Issaquah, WA.Time
I was drawn to the late afternoon light on the feathers on his head. It was a very warm day and so the sun was at full strength.Lighting
I really wanted to capture all the minute detail about this beautiful creature. From the quill-like feathers on his head to his amazing gray eye.Equipment
I used my trusty old Nikon D70s with a 70-300 lens. Most of my equipment is aging now, but still does a great job when I ask it to. Would like a new camera in the very near future.Inspiration
I was taking a lot of animal pictures that day. I found beauty in a number of locations. But this guy was just so formal looking, I couldn't resist.Editing
The only post-processing I did was to crop it. The image was clear and bright on its own. The bird is naturally gorgeous, so it didn't need any "help" afterwards. In my camera bag
I have my camera and 3 lenses. I have a 50mm f1.4, a standard 18-70 Nikon and a Tamron 70-300mm lens. I also keep a few filters, lens cloths, brush and hand sanitizer in there. =)Feedback
When you are taking pictures of animals just expect the unexpected. And, be ready for anything at any moment. Keep you finger on the trigger and you just might catch a fabulous action shot.
